Darien is named after a town in Connecticut. It was founded in 1835 along an old stagecoach trail. The original church graveyard is still visible in the town today. A cheese factory was opened in Darien in 1881 but it is now the sight of a McDonalds.
In 1903 a town member built a replica of the White House which is now part of the Aylesford Retreat Center. The first Lace School is now open as a museum and a former Village of Lace was located in the area of town that is now called The Point. In 1969, the Village of Lace and other communities were consolidated to form Darien.
