Improving functional skills can sometimes be one of the hardest parts of any training. This is often because the drills that are used in athletic situations rely so greatly on repetition of an actual movement, without really focusing on building all the muscles that are needed to gain the extra power that you need. At Core1Inc., we encounter this a lot with our clients who are working on jump training.
Whether you are interested in increasing vertical or horizontal jump power, it can be vital to condition muscles that you didn’t even realize you were using. Along with your quads and gastrocs, your core, feet, and glutes are also highly engaged in performing the motion. This means that just repeating jump drills is not necessarily going to give you the full conditioning or body awareness that you need to really improve your jump training.
Attention To Detail
Strengthening the muscles in the feet can be one of the most overlooked points in improving jump skills. Many people don’t even realize that there are over 100 muscles in the foot, around 20 of which are actively involved in articulation of the joints and connection with the tendons in the ankle and leg. Most of these muscles never really get worked out, especially when you don’t walk barefoot a lot, or if you wear shoes that have extra support.
The foot is actually designed to be a natural shock absorber, and this can help to prevent injury, but it can also improve things like jump training. One of the reasons people need to wear footwear with extra support is because these muscles are underworked, and this can create a cycle of dependence, much like losing knee strength from wearing a brace all the time.
It can be very important to focus on these lower muscles, the power for your jumping skills is coming from the ground up. At Core1Inc., we use a number of activities to help build all the muscles that you need for height and breadth in your jump training. This attention to body mechanics and details means that you will be able to excel, even if you have been previously struggling with building your jump skills.
Contacting Core1Inc. can give you the tools and resources that you need to really have your jump training show positive results. Our different programs address a number of sports enhancement activities, and can give you a real boost when it comes to besting your competition.
